By the Grace of the Saints, my heart-lotus blossoms forth. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have earned the profit — the treasure of the One's praise.

All my hopes have come true.

Pain has run off, and peace has come into my home.

By the grace of the saints, the lotus of my heart has bloomed.

When the heart opens, peace moves in where the ache was.
The deeper layer

When the heart opens, peace moves in.

Har kaa jas means the praise of the One. That praise is the real treasure, and I have earned it. Every hope I had has come true.

Then comes a lovely swap. Dukh naathaa sukh ghar meh aa-i-aa — pain ran off, and peace came into my home. Dukh is pain and sukh is peace. It is like one guest leaving the house just as a new guest walks in.

The last line uses a favorite picture in Gurbani, the Guru's words. Kamal bigsaa-i-aa — the lotus has bloomed. The lotus is a flower, and here it stands for the heart. By the grace of the saints, the heart opens like a flower in the morning sun.

A Question to Sit With

What makes your heart feel like it's “opening up” instead of closing?
