Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਹਿਮਾ ਨ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਬੇਦ ॥
mahimaa na jaaneh bayd.
The Vedas do not know His greatness.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਭੇਦ ॥
barahmay nahee jaaneh bhayd.
Brahma does not know His mystery.
ਅਵਤਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਅੰਤੁ ॥

Incarnated beings do not know His limit.

The Transcendent Lord, the Supreme Lord God, is infinite. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Vedas, the ancient holy books, do not know how great the One is.
Brahma, the creator in the old stories, does not know its secret.
The great beings born on earth as gods cannot find the One's far edge.
The Supreme One is without any limit at all.
The One is bigger than any book, name, or story can hold.
The highest names people revered in that time all stand beneath the bay-ant — the endless One. Mahimaa na jaaneh bayd — even the Vedas do not know its greatness; barahmay (Brahma) does not know its secret; avtaar (incarnations) do not know its limit. Nothing here is made small; the One is simply that vast.
A Question to Sit With
What is something so big that no explanation ever quite captures it?
