Verse 3 of 5

Your Name, My Only Support

riDh na buDh na siDh pargaas.
I have no wealth, no intelligence, no miraculous spiritual powers; I am not enlightened.
bikhai bi-aaDh kay gaav meh baas.
I dwell in the village of corruption and sickness.
karanhaar mayray parabh ayk.
O my One Creator Lord God,
naam tayray kee man meh tayk. ||2||
Your Name is the support of my mind. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have no riches, no cleverness, no special powers, and no light of wisdom.

I live in a village of wrong wants and sickness.

O my one Maker,

Your Name is the thing my mind leans on.

When you have nothing else to lean on, the Name is a support that holds.
The deeper layer

Ridh na budh na sidh — no wealth, wit, or powers. Bikhai bi-aadh kay gaav meh baas: living in the village of trouble and sickness — the ordinary human condition. Naam tayree kee man meh tayk: the Name as tayk, the prop the mind rests on when nothing else holds.

A Question to Sit With

What do you lean on when everything feels shaky?
