Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 55
Verse 4 of 5

Hearing Your Name, I Live

sun sun jeeva-o man ih bisraam.
Hearing, hearing Your Name, I live; this is my mind's consolation.
paap khandan parabh tayro naam.
Your Name, God, is the Destroyer of sins.
too agnat jee-a kaa daataa.
You, O Limitless Lord, are the Giver of the soul.
jisahi janaaveh tin too jaataa. ||3||
He alone knows You, unto whom You reveal Yourself. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When I hear Your Name, again and again, I come alive — it is my mind's comfort.

Your Name clears away the wrongs that weigh me down.

You, the Limitless One, give every soul its life.

Only the one You make Yourself known to comes to know You.

Listening for the One again and again brings you back to life.
The deeper layer

Sun sun jeeva-o — deep listening (suniai) that revives. Paap khandan: the Name breaks apart the burden of wrongs, framed as relief rather than punishment. Jisahi janaaveh tin too jaataa: you are known only by the one to whom the One reveals itself — knowing as grace, not conquest.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you love hearing again and again?
