Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Set down all your clever little tricks.

Become someone who serves, and simply serve.

Wipe out your self-importance completely.

Then the things your heart longs for will come to you.

Sometimes you get what you want most by stopping the clever maneuvering.
The deeper layer

Sagal si-aanap chhaad — drop all cleverness. Apnaa aap sagal mitaa-ay: erase self-conceit (the aap, the puffed-up self). Your worth stays; the ego goes, and the heart's deepest wishes (man chinday) can be met.

A Question to Sit With

When has trying too hard to be clever gotten in your own way?
