Serve the home that will carry you across, my friend.
Sing the praises of the One, day and night.
And in the Sangat, love the One in your heart.
The home worth giving yourself to is the one that carries you across.
Serve the home that lifts you up: so ghar sayv jit udhrahi. That home is the One, the refuge that lasts. Saadhsang kar man kee preet: in the Sangat, people gathered together to remember the One, let the mind love.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It answers the opening question: the companion worth serving is the One, found among the Sangat.
A Question to Sit With
What is a place or group that makes you a better person just by being in it?
