Merged Back Into the Source

mitaanay sabh kal kalays.
All my troubles and sufferings have been taken away;
jis tay upjay tis meh parvays.
I have merged into the One, from whom I originated.
pargatay aanoop govind.
The Lord of the Universe, incomparably beautiful, has become merciful.
parabh pooray naanak bakhsind. ||4||38||49||
O Nanak, God is perfect and forgiving. ||4||38||49||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

All my troubles and struggles have melted away.

I have flowed back into the One I came from in the first place.

The One, more beautiful than anything, has been kind to me.

Nanak says: the One is perfect, and forgives.

You are flowing back toward the One you came from all along.
The deeper layer

Flowing back home to the One is the gift here.

All troubles and struggles are wiped away. Then comes jis tay upjay tis meh parvays — I have gone back into the One I came from. Think of a wave on the ocean. It rises for a while, then settles back into the water it was always made of.

Aanoop means beyond compare. The One, more beautiful than anything, has been kind. The One is perfect and forgives.

With these words Guru Arjan closes this shabad, one of the many he wrote in Raag Raamkalee.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel most like you belong?
