a lamp made of such clay is acceptable to the Lord.
ਕਰਣੀ ਤੇ ਕਰਿ ਚਕਹੁ ਢਾਲਿ ॥

In this world and in the next, this lamp shall be with you. ||2||

In plain words

Understanding is good, clean clay, and a lamp made of it is gladly accepted by the One.

So shape your lamp on the spinning wheel of good deeds, and it will stay with you, in this world and in the next.

Good understanding is shaped on the wheel of good deeds.
The deeper layer

The inner lamp is made the way a potter makes a cup, at the wheel.

Hachhee mitee means "good clay." The good clay is understanding. A lamp made from it is one the Creator gladly accepts.

Karnee tay kar chakahu dhaal means "shape it on the wheel of good deeds." Karnee means what you do. Think of an art class where you shape a cup on the spinning wheel. Your hands give it its form. In the same way, kind and honest actions give your understanding its shape.

Aithai othai nibhee naal means "here and hereafter, it stays with you." A lamp shaped this way does not stay in your head. It shows up in how you live, and it keeps you company all the way.

A Question to Sit With

How do your actions change the way you understand things?
