The One Who Made Everything

ਜਿਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
jin kichh kee-aa so kichh karai.
The One who created everything, does everything.
ਅਪਨੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਧਰੈ ॥
apnee keemat aapay Dharai.
He Himself appraises His own value.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
gurmukh pargat ho-aa har raa-ay.
The Sovereign Lord King becomes manifest to the Gurmukh.
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
naa ko aavai naa ko jaa-ay. ||3||
He does not come, and He does not go. ||3||

In plain words

The One who made everything is the same One quietly doing everything.

Only the One knows the One's own true worth.

To the heart turned toward the Guru, this great Sovereign becomes clear and close.

The One never arrives and never leaves, but is simply always here.

The One who made everything never comes or goes; it is simply always here.
The deeper layer

The One who made everything is the same One doing everything, and the One is always here.

Jin kichh kee-aa so kichh karai — the Maker of all is the Doer of all. There is one Source behind the world and everything that happens in it.

To the gurmukh, a person whose heart is turned toward the Guru's teaching, the One becomes pargat: clear and close. Naa ko aavai naa ko jaa-ay — the One does not come and does not go.

The One is not a visitor who drops by and leaves. It is more like the air in your room. It was there before you noticed it, and it stays after you stop thinking about it.

A Question to Sit With

What does it change to imagine the One is always here, not far away?
