One who enshrines the Lord's Name in his heart night and day - even for an instant
jam ko taraas mitai naanak tih apuno janam savaarai. ||3||2||
- has his fear of Death eradicated. O Nanak, his life is approved and fulfilled. ||3||2||

In plain words

Whoever keeps the Naam of the One in the heart, night and day, even for a single blink,

has the fear of death wiped away. Nanak says: that person's life is made whole and fulfilled.

*Hold the One close, even for a moment, and fear loses its grip.*
The deeper layer

Holding the Name even for a moment loosens the fear of death and makes life whole.

Raam naam nar nis baasur meh nimakh ayk ur Dhaarai — the person who holds the Name in the heart, night and day, even for one blink. Nimakh is the blink of an eye.

Jam ko taraas mitai — the fear of Jam, the messenger of death in old stories, is wiped away. The fear of dying loosens its grip. Guru Tegh Bahadur's verses often speak about death. What ends is the clinging and the fear. The Name stays.

Think of a child afraid of the dark who holds a parent's hand. The dark is still there, but the fear melts. Janam savaarai — that person's life is made beautiful and whole.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you like to keep in your thoughts, even in the middle of a busy day?
