The Friend Who Stays to the End

Why are you intoxicated with Maya? It will not go along with you.
naanak kahat chayt chintaaman ho-ay hai ant sahaa-ee. ||3||3||81||
Says Nanak, think of Him, remember Him in your mind. He is the Fulfiller of desires, who will be your help and support in the end. ||3||3||81||

In plain words

Why get drunk on *maya*, all the sparkling stuff of the world? It goes along with no one.

Nanak says: keep the One in mind, the jewel that fulfils every wish. The One will be your help in the end.

*The One is the friend who stays when everything else has slipped away.*
The deeper layer

The sparkle of the world, maa-i-aa ko mad, can make you dizzy like a drink, and it sang na jaa-ee, goes with no one. What stays when all else falls away is the One, ant sahaa-ee, the help at the very end.

Chintaaman is the wish-fulfilling jewel of old legend. Here it names the One, who fulfils the heart.

A Question to Sit With

Who stays beside you no matter what — the friend who does not leave when things get hard?
