Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 84
Verse 8 of 9

The One Everywhere

ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
anhad sabad vajai din raatee.
The unstruck sound current of the Shabad vibrates day and night.
ਅਵਿਗਤ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤੀ ॥
avigat kee gat gurmukh jaatee.
The Gurmukh knows the state of the eternal, unchanging Lord God.
ਤਉ ਜਾਨੀ ਜਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨੀ ॥
ta-o jaanee jaa sabad pachhaanee.
When someone realizes the Shabad, then he truly knows.
ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੀ ॥੭॥
ayko rav rahi-aa nirbaanee. ||7||
The One Lord is permeating and pervading everywhere in Nirvaanaa. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Day and night the unstruck music of the Word plays on.

One who faces the Guru comes to know the One who never changes and never fades.

You know only when you recognize the Word. Then you see the single One filling everything, everywhere, free and at peace.

*Look closely enough, and you find one quiet Oneness filling everything.*
The deeper layer

Recognize the Word, and you see the One filling everything.

Anhad sabad vajai din raatee means the unstruck Word sounds day and night without stopping. Avigat kee gat is the state of the One who never perishes, and the gurmukh, the one facing the Guru, comes to know it. Ayko rav rahiaa nirbaanee means the One fills all, free and at peace. Sabad pachhaanee, recognizing the Word, is the doorway. The One present in everything runs through all of Guru Nanak's vision.

A Question to Sit With

If the same One were present in everything and everyone, how might that change the way you treat things and people?
