ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕੀ ਛੂਟੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਚੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੧੦॥੮॥

O Nanak, in God's Sanctuary, one is emancipated; the True Guru becomes our true help and support. ||10||8||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Nanak says: in the shelter of the One, a person is set free,
and the True Guru becomes their true help and support.
The safest shelter is also where you become most free.
In the One's shelter there is freedom, and the True Guru is a faithful friend.
Saran prabhoo kee chhootay — in the One's shelter, a person is set free. Satgur sach sakhaa-ee — the True Guru is sakhaa, a true friend who stays by you. Think of a harbor: boats are safe there, and from there they sail out free. Safety and freedom meet in the same place.
A Question to Sit With
Who is the friend whose support helps you feel both safe and free?
