One Lamp Lights Another

ਦੀਪਕ ਤੇ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਜੋਤਿ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥੭॥
deepak tay deepak pargaasi-aa taribhavan jot dikhaa-ee. ||7||
From the lamp of God, the lamp within is lit; the Divine Light illuminates the three worlds. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

From the One's own lamp, the lamp inside a person is lit,

and that light shines through all three worlds.

Light passes from one flame to the next.
The deeper layer

Light passes from one lamp to another, from the One to the heart.

Deepak tay deepak pargaasi-aa — one lamp lit from another. Think of candles at a celebration: one flame lights the next, and the first flame loses nothing. Tribhavan jot — the light shining through the three worlds, which means everywhere. Wisdom is caught, flame to flame, from teacher to student, from the One to the heart.

A Question to Sit With

Who has passed a little light to you, and who might you pass it to?
