A Rare and Freeing Wisdom

ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
aisaa gi-aan beechaarai ko-ee.
How rare are those who contemplate this spiritual wisdom.
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tis tay mukat param gat ho-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Through this, the supreme state of liberation is attained. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

How rare are those who turn this wisdom over in their hearts.

Through it, the highest freedom is reached.

Turning this wisdom over in your heart is where deep freedom begins.
The deeper layer

Only a few think deeply about this wisdom, and it leads to the highest freedom.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

Aisaa gi-aan beechaarai ko-ee — only a rare few think deeply about this wisdom. Gi-aan means wisdom, and beechaarai means to turn it over and over in your mind.

Tis tay mukat param gat ho-ee — through it comes mukat, freedom, and param gat, the highest state a person can reach.

This wisdom is not a fact to memorize for a test. It is more like learning to ride a bike. You can read about balance all day, but it only becomes yours when you keep at it until it changes you.

A Question to Sit With

What is an idea you keep thinking about because it feels important?
