Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The night is already hiding inside the day, and the day inside the night; heat and cold live folded inside each other too.
No one else knows how great the One is, or how far the One reaches. Without the Guru, this cannot be understood.
Opposites are not enemies. Each one holds the other inside it.
Din meh rain rain meh dinee-ar — night is in the day, and day is in the night. Think of dusk. The day is still bright, yet night is already on its way. At dawn, the night is ending and day is already there. Usan seet, hot and cold, work the same way. A cold drink on a hot day, a warm fire on a cold night.
Taa kee gat mit avar na jaanai — no one else knows the One's gat mit, how great the One is and how far the One reaches.
Gur bin samajh na ho-ee — without the Guru, this is not understood. The Guru is like the one who hands you glasses, so the blurry pattern suddenly becomes clear.
Can you think of two opposite things that need each other?
