A Mind Grown Steady

ਮਨੂਆ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਏਹਾ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੧੮॥
manoo-aa asthir sabday raataa ayhaa karnee saaree. ||18||
Imbued with the Shabad, his mind becomes steady and stable; this is the most excellent action. ||18||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Soaked in the Word, the mind grows steady and unshakable --

and this is the finest thing a person can do.

A steady mind is one of the finest things you can grow.
The deeper layer

Manoo-aa asthir — the mind made stable; sabday raataa — imbued with the Word. Ehaa karnee saaree — this is the most excellent deed (karni). Steadiness is named as the highest action: not a feat, but a mind that has stopped being blown around.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your own mind feel steadier and less easily blown around?
