This is the yoga of the one turned toward the Guru: through the Word, they come to know their own soul,
and they hold the One safe in the heart.
Yoga, at its heart, is knowing your own soul and keeping the One in your heart.
Gurmukh jog — this is the yoga of the Gurmukh. A Gurmukh is someone whose face is turned toward the Guru. Jog, or yoga, means union, being joined with the One.
Sabad aatam cheenai — through the Word, they come to know their own soul. Hirdai ayk muraaree — they keep the One inside the heart. Guru Nanak is speaking to yogis here. He says yoga, at its heart, is more than body postures. It is knowing yourself, and that knowing opens a door to the One. Think of a mirror wiped clean. You finally see your own face, and the Light behind it.
What is one thing you would like to understand better about yourself?
