No Costume Cures the Heart

ih jagat mitee kaa putlaa jogee is meh rog vadaa tarisnaa maa-i-aa.
This world is a puppet of clay, Yogi; the terrible disease, the desire for Maya is in it.
Making all sorts of efforts, and wearing religious robes, Yogi, this disease cannot be cured. ||9||

In plain words

Yogi, this world is a doll made of clay, and a great sickness lives in it: the wanting of more and more of the passing world.

Try every kind of effort, wear every holy robe, Yogi, and still this sickness does not go away.

A costume never heals a heart.
The deeper layer

The world is a mitee kaa putlaa, a figure of clay. The “disease” (rog) is trisnaa — craving, the grip of maya — the ego-attachment that is meant to be healed, not condemned. Bhekh (religious robes) and effortful display cannot cure it; the medicine lies deeper.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you wanted badly — that stopped mattering once you had it?
