Verse 12 of 28

Sitting Still in the City of God

ਸਿਵ ਨਗਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਆਸਣਿ ਬੈਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਜੋਗੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੧॥
siv nagree meh aasan baisai gur sabdee jog paa-ee. ||11||
Sitting in Yogic postures in the City of God, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, you shall find Yoga. ||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Take your seat, the way a yogi sits still, in the City of God — the quiet place inside you where the One lives.

Through the Guru's Word, you will find Yoga, union with the One.

The stillest seat is the one you find inside.
The deeper layer

Siv nagree meh aasan baisai — to take one's seat in the “city of God,” the inner sanctuary of awakened awareness. The yogic aasan (posture) becomes an inward seat, found gur shabdee, through the Word.

A Question to Sit With

Where is your quietest inner place?
