Verse 28 of 28

One Prayer, Carry Me by the Name

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਗਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੨੭॥੨॥੧੧॥
naanak ayk kahai baynantee naavhu gat pat paa-ee. ||27||2||11||
Nanak offers this one prayer: through the Name, may I find salvation and honor. ||27||2||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Nanak offers this one prayer:

through the Naam, through remembering the One, may I find freedom and honor.

In the end, one honest prayer is enough.
The deeper layer

Naanak ayk kahai baynantee — Nanak offers one prayer: naavhu gat pat paa-ee, through the Name, release (gat) and honor (pat). After so many teachings, one humble prayer is enough.

A Question to Sit With

If you could offer just one prayer, what would it be?
