Worship Without the Way

poojaa karahi par biDh nahee jaaneh doojai bhaa-ay mal laa-ee. ||10||
Those who worship Him, but do not know the Way, are polluted with the love of duality. ||10||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Some people worship, but they do not know the way.

Their love is split in two — part for the One, part for other things — and that leaves dirt on the heart.

Worship with a divided heart leaves dust on the soul.
The deeper layer

Poojaa karahi par bidh nahee jaaneh — they worship but do not know the way of it. Doojai bhaa-ay is the love of duality: a mind split between the One and a hundred other loves. Again the target is formalism in any tradition, not the outward act itself but the divided heart behind it.

A Question to Sit With

What pulls your attention in two directions when you are trying to focus?
