Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 93
Verse 10 of 22

Even the Longing Is a Gift

ਆਪੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਈ ॥੯॥
aapay nirmal pooj karaa-ay gur sabdee thaa-ay paa-ee. ||9||
The Immaculate Lord Himself inspires worship of Him; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it is accepted and approved. ||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The pure One stirs the wish to worship in you.

Through the Guru's Word, that worship is accepted.

Even your longing for something good was quietly given to you.
The deeper layer

Aapay nirmal pooj karaa-ay — the Immaculate One Himself inspires the worship of Him. This is grace in its fullest form: the goal is given, and so is the desire to reach it. Worship is a gift that includes even our first wish to offer it, far from a ladder we climb to earn favor.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you think your best wishes come from?
