Verse 18 of 22

Listening Together

ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾਈ ॥੧੭॥
sun sun gurmukh naam vakaaneh satsangat maylaa-ee. ||17||
The Gurmukhs listen constantly to the Naam, and chant it in the True Congregation. ||17||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Again and again, those who turn toward the Guru listen to the Naam.

They speak it and sing it together in the Sangat.

Deep listening and the Sangat grow the same seed.
The deeper layer

Sun sun — listening and listening: suniai, deep listening, is the ground. Satsangat is the Sangat, people gathered together to remember the One, where the Name is spoken and sung together. Listening and community stand side by side; the Name is both received in stillness and shared aloud.

A Question to Sit With

What is easier to do with others than by yourself?
