Verse 25 of 31

Weighed Down by Clinging

Those who do not serve the True Guru, and who are attached to Maya, are drowned; they die in their own egotism. ||24||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those who do not serve the True Guru, and who cling to Maya — the shiny things of the world — sink, like someone with heavy pockets in deep water.

They go under and die, still holding on to their pride.

Clinging and pride are weight, and weight pulls you under.
The deeper layer

Clinging and pride are weight, and weight pulls a person under. Satgur na sayveh maa-i-aa laagay; doob mooay ahankaaree — those who do not serve the True Guru and are attached to maya drown, and die in their own ahankaar (pride).

The warning is plain and strong. It sits beside the verses about those who hold on to the Word and cross safely over.

A Question to Sit With

What are you holding onto so tightly that it is weighing you down?
