My Trust Is in You

ਤੇਰਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
tayraa bharosaa pi-aaray.
I place my faith in You alone, O Beloved Lord.
ਆਨ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਵੇਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan na jaanaa vaysaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I do not know any other way. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My whole trust rests in You, Beloved.

I do not know any other way to be.

Trust is leaning your whole weight on what holds you.
The deeper layer

My whole trust rests in the One I love, and I know no other way.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

Tayraa bharosaa pi-aaray — my trust is in You, Beloved. Bharosaa means trust, and pi-aaray means Beloved, the One you love.

Aan na jaanaa vaysaa — I do not know any other way.

This trust is more than agreeing with an idea. It is leaning your whole self on someone. Think of a little child jumping into a parent's arms from the side of the pool. The child is not thinking about it. The child just knows the arms will be there.

A Question to Sit With

What can you lean your whole weight on?
