Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I live by singing the praises of the One.

Be kind to me, loving Lord of the world, so that I never forget You.

Singing to the One is how the heart keeps breathing.
The deeper layer

Jeevat gaa-ay means “I live by singing” — praise here is life-breath itself. Gopaal and beethulay are tender, affectionate names for the Beloved. Bisar na kab hee jaa-ay: may I never forget You. This is simran, staying connected.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that makes you feel most alive, most yourself, when you do it?
