The Commentary

Raag Saarang opens under the full Mool Mantar, and its opening unit folds the Mool Mantar together with the rahau into a single opening breath: the One is fearless, deathless, self-existent — and I belong to it, grasping its Feet so that haumai dissolves. From there the shabad names the One as light closer than breath, watches a self-turned mind grow steady when love fills it, releases the ego and with it the fear of others' opinions, and closes on the One as utterly incomparable, past and future — the Beloved to whom the whole self is joined.
