His eyes, ears and body are totally exhausted; he shall lose his breath in an instant. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

So blind, gulping down loads of poison!

Eyes, ears and the whole body are worn out, and the breath can leave in a moment.

Some things look good going down and only wear you out.
The deeper layer

We can gulp down things that look good but slowly harm us, and our time here is short.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

Bisoo means poison. Here it means things that look tasty but hurt us, the wants we feed without looking closely. AnDhay means blind. It is a passing state, not an insult: eating without really looking.

Think of drinking a whole bottle of fizzy soda because it looks fun. Later your stomach hurts.

The verse says eyes, ears and body wear out, and the breath can leave at any moment. That is not a threat. It is a gentle nudge. Our time is precious, so spend it on what matters.

A Question to Sit With

What is something tempting that leaves you feeling worse afterward?
