Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In my mind I keep thinking of that moment

when holy friends come together and sing the praises of the One, every day.

One of the sweetest things to long for is the Sangat singing together.
The deeper layer

The moment I long for most is simply being with good friends, singing to the One.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

Chitva-o vaa a-osar man maahi — "In my mind I think about that moment." An a-osar is an occasion. This longing is for being together.

Ho-ay ikatar milhu sant saajan — "Let us come together, holy people and friends." That gathering is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. And together they sing gun gobind, the good qualities of the One.

Think of looking forward all week to one family dinner where everyone laughs and sings. The longing that runs through Raag Saarang is aimed here at that simple, warm belonging.

A Question to Sit With

What is a moment with others you find yourself looking forward to?
