Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Guru, the Lord of the world, lives in my mind.

Wherever the Master is remembered, that town fills with peace and joy.

Any place becomes peaceful when the One is remembered there.
The deeper layer

The One lives in my mind, and any place where the One is remembered fills with peace.

Simran means loving remembrance, keeping the One in mind. Here it changes a whole place, not only a person. Tahaan nagar sukh aanand means that town is full of peace and joy.

Gur gobind, the Guru and Lord of the world, lives inside the mind. So the One is not somewhere far off. You carry that presence with you, the way you carry a song in your head wherever you go. That means anywhere can feel like home.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line and center of the shabad. It sets the pattern for everything after it: remembering brings peace, and forgetting brings the opposite.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a place that feels peaceful to you mostly because of what you remember there?
