A Home With No Edges

ਰਾਜਾਸ੍ਰਮ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
raajaasaram mit nahee jaanee tayree.
I do not know the limits of Your Royal Ashram.
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਹਉ ਚੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tayray santan kee ha-o chayree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I am the humble slave of Your Saints. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I cannot find the edges of Your royal home.

I am a servant of Your saints.

You cannot measure the One, but you can belong to it.
The deeper layer

The One is too big to measure, and yet there is a place for each of us.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of this shabad by Bhagat Kabir.

Raajaasaram means a royal home or kingdom. Kabir says he cannot find the edges of the One's kingdom. It just keeps going.

But he does not feel lost or afraid. He says he belongs to the sant, the holy people who love the One.

Think of standing under a huge night sky full of stars. It is too big to count. But you are standing there with your family, and you feel at home.

A Question to Sit With

When has something felt too big to understand, yet still felt like home?
