In plain words

O my mind, remember the Fearless One — true, true, true forever.

The One holds no grudge, never dies, is never born, and exists by itself. My mind, day and night, remember the One who has no shape and needs nothing to keep going.

The One you can hold in mind is fearless, timeless, and holds no grudge.
The deeper layer

Keep your mind on the One who is never afraid, and you will grow less afraid too.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

The words here echo the Mool Mantar, the opening lines of the Guru Granth Sahib. Nirbhau means fearless. Sat means true. Nirvair means holding no grudge against anyone. Akaal moorat means the form that never dies. Aajoonee means never born. Sambhau means existing on its own.

Two more follow. Nirankaar means without any shape. Niraahaaree means needing nothing to keep it going.

Think of standing next to a calm friend in a storm. Some of their calm rubs off on you. Holding the fearless One in mind works like that.

A Question to Sit With

How might holding a fearless One in mind make you a little more fearless?
