The Longing Answered

har jan ka-o har mili-aa har sarDhaa tay mili-aa gurmukh har mili-aa.
The Lord's humble servant meets the Lord, through his faith in the Lord; meeting the Lord, he becomes Gurmukh.
mayrai man tan aanand bha-ay mai daykhi-aa har raa-o.
My mind and body are in ecstasy; I have seen my Sovereign Lord King.
jan naanak ka-o kirpaa bha-ee har kee kirpaa bha-ee jagdeesur kirpaa bha-ee.
Servant Nanak has been blessed with Grace, blessed with the Lord's Grace, blessed with the Grace of the Lord of the Universe.
mai andino sad sad sadaa har japi-aa har naa-o. ||2||3||10||
I meditate on the Lord, the Name of the Lord, night and day, forever, forever and ever. ||2||3||10||

In plain words

The One's servant meets the One through whole-hearted trust; facing the Guru, they find the One.

My body and mind fill with joy — I have seen the One, my King! Nanak says: grace came to me, the grace of the One, Lord of the world, and now, day and night, forever, I say the Naam.

A whole-hearted longing, met by grace, ends in joy.
The deeper layer

Har sardhaa tay mili-aa — the One is met through sardhaa, whole-hearted trust and longing. Aanand bha-ay is deep joy; kirpaa bha-ee is grace arriving. The ache of the verse before, met by grace, turns into joy.

A Question to Sit With

What's something you longed for that felt even better once it finally came?
