In plain words

Maya, the great enchanter, keeps pulling at us, and nothing makes her stop.

Seekers and wise masters all love her. No one can push her away.

The pull of “more” is strong for everyone; naming it is the first freedom.
The deeper layer

There is a strong pull in the world, and almost everyone feels it.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

Mohnee means the one who enchants. Here it is maa-i-aa (Maya) pictured as a person. Maya is the shiny pull of the changing world: things, wanting more, always the next new thing.

Guru Arjan is honest about it. Even serious seekers and spiritual masters feel its tug. No one can simply push it away.

Think of a phone buzzing on the table while you do homework. Even grown-ups keep glancing at it. The pull is real and strong. Saying so plainly is not meant to scare us. It means we never need to feel ashamed that we feel it.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that pulls at your attention so strongly it is hard to look away?
