In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Lord of the world, I have seen Your glory.

You do everything and make everything happen. You create, and You gather it all back in. You are the true King over all.

Behind everything that happens, there is one wonder to gaze at.
The deeper layer

Wonder first: I have seen Your glory, and You are the true King over everything.

This is an ashtapadee, a song of eight verses, by Guru Arjan, the fifth Guru. Gusaa-eeN means Lord of the world. Partaap tuhaaro deethaa means "I have seen Your glory." This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center the song keeps returning to.

Karan karaavan means the One who does everything and makes everything happen. Upaa-ay samaavan means the One who makes things and gathers them back in, like the ocean sending out a wave and taking it home again.

Chhatarpat means a king under a royal umbrella, the true King. The whole song unfolds this picture.

A Question to Sit With

What in the world fills you with wonder when you stop to look?
