Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Naam of the One is cool and soothing.

Holy people searched and searched through the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees, and this is what they found.

All the searching, in every holy book, arrives at one cool, quiet Name.
The deeper layer

The Name of the One is cool and soothing, and seekers of every holy book have found this.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Har kay naam kee gat thaandhee — the Name brings coolness. Saarang is a raag, a musical mood, linked with the heat of the day and a thirsty heart. So coolness is exactly what the heart longs for. Think of a cold glass of water after running around on a summer afternoon.

Bayd puraan simrit names the Vedas, Puraanas and Simritees, the old Hindu holy books. They are named with respect. The good seekers khojat khojat, searched and searched through them. And the place their search arrived was the living Name.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that cools you down inside when you feel hot with worry or anger?
