Says Nanak, the Guru has broken my bonds, and ended my separaation; He has united me with God. ||2||51||74||

In plain words

You took me by the arm and drew me up out of a deep, dark place I could not climb out of on my own.

Nanak says, the Guru cut the ropes that tied me down, and gathered me back — the one who felt cut off — into belonging again.

When you cannot climb out alone, the One reaches in and lifts.
The deeper layer

The One reaches in and lifts out the one who is stuck.

Baah pakar kadh leenay — taking by the arm and lifting out — is a hands-on image of rescue from the andh koop, the dark well of tangled attachment. Read gently, the pit is a hard place one could not leave alone, not a punishment. Bandhan kaatay — bonds cut; bichhurat aan milaa-i-aa — the separated one rejoined. Belonging is restored.

A Question to Sit With

When you have been stuck in a hard place, who reached in and helped pull you out?
