Known Before I Spoke

ਅਨਬੋਲਤ ਮੇਰੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਨੀ ਅਪਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇਆ ॥
anbolat mayree birthaa jaanee apnaa naam japaa-i-aa.
You know my condition, without my speaking. You inspire me to chant Your Name.

dukh naathay sukh sahj samaa-ay anad anad gun gaa-i-aa. ||1||
My pains are gone, and I am absorbed in peace, poise and bliss, singing Your Glorious Praises. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Before I said a single word, you already knew exactly how I was hurting, and you gently turned me toward your Name.

My pains ran off, a settled peace moved in, and I found myself singing your praises, full of joy.

The One knows what hurts before you find the words for it.
The deeper layer

The One knows the hurt before a word is spoken.

Anbolat mayree birthaa jaanee — knowing my pain without my speaking — names the One's intimate nearness. Sukh sahj samaa-ay — absorbed in peace and effortless ease (sahj). Grace arrives before the asking.

A Question to Sit With

Has someone ever understood how you felt before you explained? How did that feel?
