O my mind, meditate on the Lord of the Universe, the Lord, the Lord of the Universe, the Treasure of Virtue, the God of all creation. O my mind, chant the Name of the Lord, the Lord, the Eternal, Imperishable, Primal Lord God. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my mind, remember Govind, the One — the treasure of every good thing, the Lord of all creation.

My mind, say the Naam of the One who never fades and never dies.

Every good thing has one source — hold that in mind.
The deeper layer

Every good thing comes from one Source, so keep that Source in mind.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. It is a partaal, a song in which the beat keeps changing. It opens by naming the One. Govind is the Keeper of the world. Gunee nidhaan means the treasure-house of every good quality. Sabh sarisat kaa prabho means the Lord of all creation.

Abhinaasee means the One who never fades and never dies.

Think of a river. The water in every stream, pond, and tap can be traced back to one spring in the hills. Every good thing traces back to a single Source like that.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you think all the good things in the world come from?
