They alone are the good Saints of the Lord, the best and most exalted devotees, who are pleasing to their Lord.

Those who have my Lord and Master on their side - O Nanak, the Lord saves their honor. ||2||4||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The saints of the One are good; the devotees who please the One are the finest of all.

Nanak says: whoever the One stands beside, the One keeps their honor safe.

The One stands beside those whose love is true.
The deeper layer

The One stands beside those whose love is true.

The verse calls them sant bhalay and bhagat bhalay, the good saints and good devotees. They are the ones who please the One.

"Jin kaa ang karai" means those whose side the One takes. "Paij savaaree" means their honor is kept safe.

Think of a coach who always has your back, even on a bad day. You do not have to prove yourself to keep that care. Guru Ram Das ends with that picture: the One is on the side of true love.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to know someone is on your side?
