Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਰਸਨਾ ਜਪਤੀ ਤੂਹੀ ਤੂਹੀ ॥
rasnaa japtee toohee toohee.
My tongue chants Your Name, Your Name.

In the mother's womb, You sustained me, and in this mortal world, You alone help me. ||1||Pause||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
My tongue keeps saying You, only You.
In my mother's womb, You cared for me. And here in this world, You alone are my help.
The One who held you before you were born is holding you still.
Maat garabh — the mother’s womb — is used tenderly here: the One’s care reaches back before birth and forward through all of life. Rasnaa japtee toohee toohee — the tongue repeating “You, You” — is naam simran, the loving repetition that keeps the One present in awareness.
A Question to Sit With
What does it feel like to think that you were cared for even before you can remember?
