You are my Family, and You are my Support. You are the Giver of the Breath of Life. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are my father and my mother both. You are my dear friend and my brother.

You are my whole family and the thing that holds me up — and the very breath that keeps me alive comes from You. Every kind of belonging I could ever want, I find in You.

Every kind of love you know is one window onto the single love that holds them all.
The deeper layer

Every human relationship — pitaa, maataa, meet, bhraataa, parvaar — is piled up and laid on the One. Every love you have ever felt is a small window onto the one great love that holds them all. Jee-a paraan-daata — giver of soul and breath — completes the picture.

A Question to Sit With

Which of your loved ones shows you a different side of what love can be?
