In plain words

Fear and dread have been driven far from my mind.

With easy, natural calm, I sing the praise of the One — my Beloved, so kind, rose-red, my Darling.

When fear slips away, praise flows all by itself.
The deeper layer

Fear has left the mind, and now the song to the One flows with easy calm.

Bhai bha-o means fear and dread. Door paraa-i-o means they have been sent far away.

Sahj sahj is a word said twice, and it means easy, natural calm. The singing flows on its own; no one is forcing it. Think of humming while you cook with someone you love.

Then come four tender names for the One: laal, Beloved; da-i-aal, Kind; gulaal, rose-red; laadilay, Darling. They are playful, loving words. They show the One as close and warm, never stern.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center the whole shabad returns to.

A Question to Sit With

What helps the fear in you quiet down enough that something joyful can come out?
