Found Within My Own Heart

ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਾਤਿ ਕਮਾਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਧਾਇਓ ॥

Practicing the Guru's Word, by His Grace, I do not wander anywhere anymore.

The illusion has been dispelled; I am in Samaadhi, Sukh-aasan, the position of peace. I have found the Lord, the Lover of His devotees, within the home of my own heart. ||1||

In plain words

I live what the Guru showed me, and by grace I have stopped wandering. I no longer search everywhere, restless for the next thing.

The fog of confusion has cleared. A deep stillness has settled in me, a seat of peace. And the One who loves us was right here, at home in my own heart, all along.

The One you were searching for is already at home inside you.
The deeper layer

No more searching everywhere: the One is found at home in your own heart.

Gur bachnaat kamaat means living out the Guru's words. Kirpaa tay means by grace. Then bahur na kathoo Dhaa-i-o: I don't run around anywhere anymore.

UpaaDh is the churning of confusion and trouble. SamaaDh sukh aasan is a settled seat of deep peace, the stillness of a calm lake.

Bhagat vachhal means the One who loves those who love. That One is found garihi, at home, inside the heart. Think of hunting all over the house for your glasses, then finding them on your head. The One was never somewhere else. Stillness just lets you notice what was always there.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you usually go looking for what you need — and what if some of it is already inside you?
