All the actions he commits are just shackles and bonds. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Without the Naam, a person drifts like a restless ghost.

All the things they do, and all they get others to do, become knots and tangles that tie them up.

Without a center to act from, even your busiest day can tie you in knots.
The deeper layer

har kay naamheen baytaal: without the Name a person is baytaal, literally a restless spirit, carried here as adrift, off-center, wandering without an anchor. Then karan karaavan, all the busy doing, becomes bandhan janjaal, knots and tangles — action without a center only ties tighter. The remedy is not less doing but a steadying center to do from.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel centered when everything gets busy and scattered?
