Like Fish In Water

As the fish is immersed in water, they are absorbed in the Lord's Name.

O Nanak, the Saints are like the rainbirds; they are comforted, drinking in the drops of the Lord's Name. ||2||68||91||

In plain words

Just as a fish cannot be pulled from the water it lives in, they cannot be pulled from the Name.

Nanak says: like the little rainbird longing for a single raindrop, the saints are comforted the moment they taste the One.

Some loves are the water you live in.
The deeper layer

A fish and a rainbird show a love that is as needed as water.

Meenaa is a fish. It is wrapped up in water. Take it out, and it cannot live. The good-hearted are wrapped up in the Name the same way.

Chaatrik is the rainbird. The old stories say it drinks only raindrops as they fall, and waits for them with longing. When a single boond, a drop, arrives, it finds comfort.

Both pictures show a love that isn't optional. It is the very thing life swims in. Being with the One is as natural and needed as water to a fish.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you would find it hard to live without, like a fish out of water?
