In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

O my mind, all greatness is in the Naam.

I know no one but the One. Through the Naam I have found freedom.

The Name is a freedom nothing outside you can take.
The deeper layer

O my mind: greatness is in the Name, and through it comes a freedom nothing can take.

This is an ashtapadee, a song of eight verses, by Guru Amar Das, the third Guru. It opens with man mayray, "O my mind." The singer is gently teaching himself, the way you might say "come on, you can do this" before a test.

Har kai naam vadaa-ee means the greatness of the Name. This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the song.

Mukat gat means freedom, being set loose. It is a freedom that comes from inside. So nothing outside can undo it. Think of a kite: its string doesn't hold it down, it lets it fly.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing that feels unshakably yours?
