In plain words

Wanting plays itself out in so many ways.

It never fills up at all, and in the end it falls down, worn out.

Endless wanting never fills up; it only wears itself out.
The deeper layer

Wanting has many faces, and it never fills up.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Trisnaa means thirst, a craving that never ends. Chalat baho parkaar — it plays out in so many different ways.

Here is craving's main trick. It promises to make us full. Then it only brings more wanting. Ant partee haar — in the end it just falls down, worn out.

Think of scrolling on a phone for "just one more" video. There is always one more, and you never feel done. This part of the raag keeps coming back to that restless hunger. And each time, the answer is the same: the One.

A Question to Sit With

When you finally get something you badly wanted, how long before you want the next thing?
