Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I give my whole self to my perfect Guru.

The One who keeps all has kept me safe, and made the glory of the Naam plain for all to see.

The One who keeps everything keeps you, and makes it plain.
The deeper layer

A heart full of love gives thanks to the Guru.

Balihaarai means "I am a sacrifice." It is the language of love that gives its whole self. This is the "pause" line, the rahaa-o, the center of the shabad. Raakhay raakhanhaarai is a gentle play on words: the Protector protected me.

Pargat partaap kee-o naam ko means "the glory of the Name was made plain for all to see." Think of a lamp switched on in a dark room. Everyone can see what it lights up. A life that has been kept safe shows the grace of the One the same way.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt safely held by something bigger than you?
